About Mexic-Arte Museum:

Mexic-Arte Museum is a non-profit institution committed to showcasing and interpreting the rich tapestry of Mexican, Mexican American, and Latinx art and culture. By exhibiting both traditional and contemporary works, the museum provides visitors with a chance to connect with and understand the historical and artistic narratives of these diverse cultures. Beyond the museum's walls, a wider audience is engaged through outreach classes, guided tours, lectures, and various educational initiatives.

Scope: The Cultural Education Coordinator leads, guides, and manages the museum's educational initiatives and the internship program. They oversee both daily operations and long-term strategies for educational development, including tours and community engagement programs. Furthermore, the Cultural Education Coordinator collaborates closely with the Curator and Director of Programs to design exhibit-related educational activities.

Reporting Relationship: The Cultural Education Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Partners: This role involves working as part of a three-member Education Department team alongside interns and other professionals. The Cultural Education Coordinator is also integrated into the museum's exhibits and programs team and maintains ongoing collaborations with educational partners.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Exhibitions & Educational Programs

● Acts as the liaison to the Curatorial Department, contributing to the development of exhibitions and educational components related to these projects.

● Translates exhibition and educational materials from English to Spanish, requiring excellent proficiency in both languages.

● Directs and coordinates a comprehensive educational program that aligns with the museum's mission, including:

1. The creation, research, and execution of innovative educational programming for diverse audiences in various formats at the museum.

2. Collaborative development of workshops and programs for the public and educators, including family days and career events.

3. Joint creation of educational resources such as guides for educators and gallery visitors.

Internship Management

● Oversees the internship program, including reporting and evaluations.

● Ensures that the internship experience equips interns with the skills necessary to become competent entry-level museum professionals.

● Facilitates the integration of academic knowledge and practical skills for students.

● Serves as the primary contact between universities and the museum.

● Manages all aspects of the internship recruitment process, including screening and orientation.

● Provides leadership and support to interns and staff, ensuring alignment with the museum's values.

● Regularly evaluates the internship program's performance and implements improvements based on feedback.

● Handles intern payment processes.

Educational Programming

● Guides the museum's educational initiatives to develop innovative programs that reflect the museum's mission and strategic objectives.

● Assists in planning school programs that are based on exhibitions and foster relationships with educators.

● Aids in curriculum development for K-12 art education outreach programs.

● Supports the execution of tours, family events, summer camps, and artist workshops.

Additional Responsibilities

● Participates in collective event activities and fulfills other assigned duties.

● Engages with professional organizations and collaborates effectively with diverse individuals.

● Tracks and generates required deliverables for grants, including reports and documentation.

● Performs other duties as necessary within the scope of this position.

Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art history, arts education, museum studies, or a related field, along with professional experience in arts education, including curriculum and program design. Strong organizational and computer skills are essential, as is the ability to foster constructive working relationships.

Requirements:

● Proficient written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.

● In-depth knowledge of Latinx and Latin American art, history, and culture.

● Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written.

● Ability to obtain necessary background checks and possess reliable transportation.

● Must be available to work on-site during specified hours.

● Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

● Capability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Compensation: This is a full-time salaried position with benefits, including partial healthcare coverage. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for programs. The annual salary is $52,000.
