Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of clerical duties related to patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and deaths, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Ensure timely notification of STAT orders to licensed nursing personnel, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately and efficiently, notifying consultants as required, and maintaining clear communication channels.
  • Manage inventory and supplies, requisitioning equipment and maintenance services as needed, and maintaining organized stock and equipment inventories.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, answering phone calls, and relaying messages, ensuring timely follow-up on patient requests.
  • Assist physicians in obtaining reports from lab, radiology, and other departments, facilitating efficient patient care.
  • Schedule patient tests, diagnostic procedures, and doctor appointments, ensuring seamless coordination and communication.
  • Organize patient charts in proper sequence, labeling and replenishing necessary forms, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Obtain patient records from other facilities, ensuring continuity of care and accurate documentation.
  • Manage patient flow through the flowboard, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing delays.
  • Verify accurate discharge disposition in electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required education assignments annually, and participating in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Observation Unit.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job.
  • No minimum experience required, but preference may be given to individuals with prior experience in a healthcare setting.
  • No licensure requirements.
