Job Summary:

Covenant Health is seeking a highly skilled Health Information Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Health Information Management department, you will be responsible for processing and releasing patient health information to authorized parties, while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and release patient health information to authorized parties, including attorneys, insurance carriers, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Assist with supervising and evaluating HIM associates.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient health information.
  • Assess subpoenas and court orders, and respond appropriately and timely.
  • Compare billing data with outgoing charts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Process invoices for copying charges, and handle cash and checks.
  • Assess supply needs and place orders as necessary.
  • Maintain and update applicable databases, and track all release of information.
  • Monitor and trend revenue and expenses, and assist in projecting future revenue estimates.

Requirements:

  • Some college inclusive of HIPAA courses, or a minimum of five (5) years experience in the release of information role.
  • Must be able to type 25 net words per minute.
  • Experience in medical records preferred.
  • Must possess a desire to provide excellent customer service, and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must maintain thorough knowledge of Covenant Health HIPAA policies, as well as all State and Federal guidelines regulating release of personal health information.
  • Must possess good decision-making skills, and be able to work independently.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
