Job Overview:

As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for surveying citrus orchards and nurseries to identify pest-related issues, including insects, diseases, and weeds. Your scouting reports will play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our crops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily walks of at least 5 miles to inspect citrus orchards for signs of pests, diseases, and other agricultural concerns.
  • Perform scouting activities in citrus nurseries to detect any pest issues.
  • Set up and retrieve insect traps in both orchards and nurseries.
  • Collect soil and tissue samples for subsequent nutrient analysis.
  • Maintain an accurate monthly inventory of chemicals used.
  • Assist with various tasks and special projects as directed by your supervisor.
  • Utilize modern technology to complete daily scouting reports via mobile devices or computers.
  • Follow supervisor instructions diligently and adhere to established standards for all assigned tasks.
  • Document environmental data from field samples to assess pest populations and the effectiveness of integrated pest management strategies.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely, wearing required safety gear and seeking guidance when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing in English.
  • Experience with electronic devices for data entry and reporting is preferred.
  • Background in citrus cultivation and entomology is advantageous.
  • Degrees in Agricultural Science or Environmental Science are preferred.
