Position Overview

This role is situated within the Maintenance Division of a prominent national park service. The positions available are permanent full-time and permanent Career-Seasonal, providing the same benefits as Career appointments but with a seasonal work schedule.

Job Responsibilities

As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (USRO), you will engage in the management of water and wastewater systems, which encompasses treatment, distribution, and collection systems. Your duties will include:

  • Assisting in the activation, operation, maintenance, and deactivation of various facilities and equipment.
  • Monitoring and reading meters, pressure switches, gauges, pumps, and motors, as well as troubleshooting and resetting switches and breakers.
  • Supporting the collection and processing of water samples in a state-certified laboratory, adhering to Quality Assurance/Quality Control protocols.
  • Participating in sewage pumping operations and conducting scheduled and emergency repairs on water and wastewater systems.

Work Environment

The positions are located in various districts of the national park, which feature diverse elevations and climates. Employees may experience temperatures ranging from extreme cold in winter to warm summers, with unique accessibility challenges during different seasons.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Background investigation and favorable adjudication are required.
  • Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the submission of a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • Completion of training and operation of a four-wheel drive vehicle may be necessary.
  • Uniform compliance with National Park Service standards is required, with a uniform allowance provided.
  • Availability for on-call duties, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime, is expected.
  • New employees may be subject to a one-year probationary period.
  • Certification in Wyoming (or equivalent) Level 1 and Level 2 Water and Wastewater systems must be obtained within specified timeframes.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet specific educational criteria.

Essential Skills

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Ability to perform the duties of a Utility System Repairer Operator with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Understanding of technical practices and measuring instructions.

Volunteer Experience

Experience, both paid and unpaid, including volunteer work through recognized service programs, will be considered valuable in the evaluation process.

Education

No educational substitution for experience is permitted for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
