Job Summary

Auburn University at Montgomery is seeking a highly qualified Master Educator to join our team as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. This is a full-time, twelve-month position that will play a critical role in advancing the recruitment and instructional endeavors of our AUMTeach program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and oversee recruitment events to attract students from various STEM backgrounds, including junior and senior high school students, current STEM majors, and transfer students from partner institutions.
  • Teach AUMTeach courses, including Step 1: Inquiry Approaches to Teaching, Step 2: Inquiry-Based Lesson Design, and other relevant subjects.
  • Observe and supervise students during field experiences and apprentice teaching in area public schools.
  • Recruit, train, and retain mentor teachers within partner school systems.
  • Attend the annual UTeach conference and workshops held by the UTeach Institute.
  • Collaborate with the AUMTeach team, UTeach Institute, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and partner school systems to develop partnerships and expand educational opportunities.
  • Participate in student support activities, including tracking students and identifying those in danger of not completing the program.
Additional Duties
  • Hold regular informational and recruitment sessions to expand the pool of preceptors at partner schools.
  • Assist students in developing lesson plans and in-class activities for field experiences and internships/student teaching.
  • Obtain supplies to ensure students have the required materials for field experiences.
  • Spearhead course development for AUMTeach courses.
  • Provide students with feedback on class work, assignments, and field experiences.
  • Aid in the administration of edTPA and preparation for Praxis.
  • Aid in coordinating background checks for AUMTeach students.
  • Ensure mentor teachers at partner schools complete required documentation for stipends and student evaluations.
  • Maintain office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of professional development opportunities for AUMTeach mentor teachers, summer program opportunities for K12 students, and summer internships for AUMTeach students.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders, including the Alabama State Department of Education, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and Alabama STEM Council.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators and mentor teachers within partner school systems.
  • Serve as the faculty advisor for a student organization advancing the mission of AUMTeach and the UTeach Institute.
Requirements
  • A Class A Alabama Professional Educator's Certificate.
  • A Master's degree or higher in Secondary Education or a STEM field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a secondary classroom teacher, with a preference for public school experience.
  • Expertise in the appropriate use of instructional technology.
  • Interest in preparing secondary STEM teachers for public education positions.
  • Willingness to support the mission of AUMTeach and the UTeach Institute.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with the AUMTeach Team, UTeach Institute, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and partner school systems.
