Job Summary

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Husbandry Technician I to join our team. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our laboratory research mice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily animal health checks and report any observed health conditions to the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) assigned to the room and to the research contact.
  • Refill water bottles, remove and dispose of soiled bedding, and organize cleaned caging and accessories.
  • Participate in required EH&S and Animal Resources training courses and maintain compliance with all training requirements.
  • May perform euthanasia on rodents and prepare cleaning solutions.
  • Restock supplies, maintain animal room activity logs, and husbandry records.
Requirements
  • High School diploma and ability to pass post-employment physical as required by OLAW.
  • Ability to work in an environment with animal dander and dust particles and perform repetitive motions with arms, wrists, and hands.
  • Ability to lift and stack feed and bedding bags up to 40 pounds and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
