Position Overview

Midstate Radiology Associates (MRA) is seeking a dedicated Full Time, 2nd Shift, CT Imaging Technologist Trainee.

Schedule: 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM, five shifts per week with a rotation every 3rd weekend and holiday (subject to operational needs).

Compensation: MRA provides a competitive starting salary based on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this role is between $26.00 and $54.00 per hour, along with competitive shift differentials (12%-50% of base rate).

A sign-on bonus of $10,000.00 is available for well-qualified candidates.

Role Summary:

Under the guidance of the CT Lead Technologist and CT Technologist, you will operate equipment and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic CT procedures on patients following established protocols to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Adherence to policies and procedures set by the department, hospital, state, ACR, TJC, and OSHA is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct diagnostic computed tomography procedures by selecting appropriate exposure factors, algorithms, and scan fields, considering patient age and diagnosis to produce accurate cross-sectional images for the radiologist.
  2. Assist in complex invasive CT examinations by supporting the radiologist with proper sterile techniques and generating CT images for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
  3. Some responsibilities may include starting intravenous sites, assessing existing sites, and administering intravenous contrast in accordance with established protocols.
  4. Ensure radiation safety through the appropriate use of shielding, correct exposure factors, and field sizes while complying with safety standards to protect patients and staff.
  5. Maintain CT equipment in optimal working condition, ensuring cleanliness and proper disinfection after each use, and report any hazardous conditions or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  6. Demonstrate annual competencies, including knowledge and behaviors necessary to conduct examinations and meet patient needs based on age, condition, or other special requirements.
  7. Review physician orders and patient requisitions for completeness to ensure the correct procedure and protocol are followed.
  8. Document relevant patient and examination information, storing computerized images on archive media for future reference.
  9. Prepare examinations for interpretation by the radiologist, ensuring correct identification and processing, and accurately input data into the RIS to capture all charges and relevant information.
  10. Possess computer skills necessary for departmental needs in report preparation and correspondence.
  11. Conduct and document weekly quality assurance testing on equipment according to established protocols to maintain high system performance.
  12. Collaborate effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication and cooperation.

Qualifications:

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an AMA-approved radiology program.
  • CT radiographer license.
  • CPR certification may be required.

Desirable:

  • At least one year of experience as a radiological technologist.
  • Associate's or Applied Science Degree in a related field.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of radiological technology, including anatomy, medical and surgical diseases, and scientific principles related to radiological technology.
  • Familiarity with patient care standards and requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
  • OSHA regulations and practices.
  • TJC standards of practice.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to operate CT equipment with guidance.
  • Organize and monitor patient flow to meet productivity, quality, health, and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff, and colleagues.
  • Venipuncture certification (where applicable).
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Organize and complete work according to required workloads.
  • Read, interpret, and follow internal quality standards and government regulations.
  • Understand and follow specifications and instructions.
  • React calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Maintain basic life support (CPR) certification.

Special Conditions:

  • May require rotation on night, weekend, and/or holiday call schedules.
  • May involve covering ancillary offices as needed.
  • OSHA Class 1 exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Physical lifting and/or walking may be required.
