Reporting directly to the Vice President, Giving & Impact,
the Senior Director, Institutional Giving & Impact is
responsible for securing ambitious financial resources from
institutional funders to achieve organizational revenue goals. The
Senior Director works closely with other TWS Giving & Impact
and Program staff to secure this support for TWS' conservation
priorities. They lead their channel in identification, cultivation,
solicitation, stewarding of current and prospective foundation and
corporate donors who can and will make significant gifts to TWS.
They are also responsible for managing relationships and securing
support from a portfolio of funders and prospects to support the
mission of The Wilderness Society.

The Senior Director also serves as part of the Giving &
Impact Leadership Team, working with other Sr. Directors and the VP
to ensure that philanthropy is understood across the organization
is that the philanthropic voice is part of major organizational
decisions.

The Senior Director, Institutional Giving & Impact plays a
critical role in establishing and reinforcing an inclusive
organizational culture that is grounded in trust and accountability
to shared goals and outcomes. TWS has made diversity, equity, and

will integrate these priorities throughout our work, from expanding
our partnerships to bringing an equity lens to all facets of donor
prospecting and solicitation as well as inclusivity in team

Essential duties & responsibilities

Directs the institutional fund-raising efforts
organization-wide. Manages and oversees the institutional
Leadership Giving team and works with Senior Leadership within the
organization to set ambitious goals and generate new relationships
important to the work of TWS.
Works with Senior Leadership and Program staff to identify
funding opportunities and develop cultivation, solicitation and
stewardship strategies for foundation prospects to strengthen
relationships and increase funding opportunities.
Works on select high- priority proposals and reports and is
responsible for overseeing all proposals and report submissions,
ensuring deadlines are met, overseeing the cultivation process of
each funder, maintaining approval of final copy, and ensuring all
proposals and reports prepared by the team are a collaborative
effort across program, finance, and development staff.
Supervises and develops Institutional Giving Officer(s) in
writing, production and submission of grant proposals, letters of
inquiry, and reports. Establishing a team that works both
independently and collaboratively to succeed.
Works with VP and other Giving & Impact Senior Directors to
coordinate with the President's Office, developing strategies
involving Executive Team or Governing Council members. Supports
department in development of materials or presentations on
institutional funding for Executive Team or Council meetings.
Serve as part of the Giving & Impact department's Senior
Leadership Team, responsible for nurturing and advancing
departmental effectiveness, collaboration, and morale.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Competencies
10+ years professional fundraising experience in the areas of
foundation relations. Experience with environmental policy funders
is a plus.

Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to
understand, interpret, and synthesize complex programmatic
information and to communicate effectively with Governing Council,
staff, and executive leadership both in and out of TWS;
Experience managing $1 million + funders and demonstrated
ability to formulate complex strategic programs. Demonstrated
ability to use problem solving skills for resolving funder.
Excellent leadership and organizational skills with an emphasis
on program and project management.
Experience with developing and managing project budgets.
Experience leading and managing teams representing a rich mix
of talent, backgrounds, and perspectives. This includes a
track record of successful recruitment, cultivation, and retention
of highly skilled staff across race and gender.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ROI, or similar donor
database.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work
with considerable independence within the context of a team
environment and network of relationships.
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a
changing environment with initiative and flexibility.
Negotiation and facilitation skills.
A reputation for high ethical standards and integrity.
Familiarity with the conservation environment and a commitment
to the mission and values of The Wilderness Society preferred
