Under the supervision of the RN or LPN, you will assist in providing personalized care to patients, helping them achieve their highest level of wellness.

You will perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks that are essential for patient care.
Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Collecting and documenting patient data (e.g., vital signs) in the EMR system. You may also conduct point-of-care testing or specimen collection as required by the unit (e.g., glucose monitoring).
  • Observing any changes or unusual occurrences in patient conditions and reporting them immediately to the appropriate personnel. Collaborating with other healthcare team members to optimize patient care.
  • Demonstrating responsible use of resources, managing charge reconciliation processes, and documenting charges accurately.
  • Performing clerical duties as necessary (e.g., answering phones, monitoring lights).
  • Nurse Technicians will execute advanced patient care skills and duties that require additional education, training, and/or competency validation independently.
Phlebotomy

  • Established Trach care/suctioning for both closed and open systems.
  • Non-sterile dressing changes for wound care.


Wound Care Responsibilities:
  • Performing sterile dressing changes.
  • Conducting visual acuity assessments.
  • Administering whirlpool baths for wound care.
  • Collecting cultures.
  • Managing fecal management systems and their removal.
  • Caring for arterial and venous fistulas or grafts.
  • Providing care for Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD), including PICC, CVC, implanted ports, dialysis, and sheath/introducer: inserting, removing, and setting up tubing.
  • Participating in Emergency Department triage.
  • Monitoring PCA care and maintenance.


Ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP:
  • Providing care and maintenance.


Safety/Risk Management:

  • Adhering to Mercy policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, and patient rights/regulations.
  • Participating in unit/departmental specific policies and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care quality.
Utilizing unit-specific technology to perform assigned duties.
Candidates must be enrolled in a board-certified nursing program.

Before starting, the nurse technician must provide student transcripts confirming completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited nursing school and a competency skills list from their educational institution.

The nurse technician must maintain good standing with their nursing school while in this role.

This program is exclusively for nursing students; if a student exits the program for any reason, they will no longer be eligible for the nurse technician position.


Preferred Experience:
EMT, Paramedic, or previous patient care experience.

Preferred Certifications:

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the State of Missouri.
