Job Summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a highly skilled Dialysis Technician II to join our team. As a Dialysis Technician II, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our outpatient dialysis setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Management: Arrange and maintain equipment and supplies for dialysis and other procedures, including preparation of dialysate solutions.
  • Treatment Initiation and Monitoring: Perform cannulation, initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatment.
  • Patient Observation and Assessment: Observe and monitor patient vital signs and significant dialysis treatment parameters; assess patient signs and symptoms and provide treatment accordingly.
  • Communication and Documentation: Communicate pertinent patient information or changes in patient condition to the team leader; document these results per unit's policies.
  • Patient Transportation and Support: Transport, weigh, and assist patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, and chairs.
  • Confidentiality and Patient Concerns: Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines and respond to patient concerns in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent high school certification with six months of experience in a hospital or outpatient healthcare facility setting.
  • Certification: Certification by a nationally recognized board (CCHT, BONET, or NNCO) is required within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Dialysis Experience: Previous experience in dialysis is highly desirable.
  • Medical Certifications: BLS certification and Medical Assistant/CAN certification are preferred.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and phlebotomy skills are essential.
  • Teamwork and Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a team setting and adapt to changing situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Basic mathematical skills are required for accurate treatment calculations.
  • Emergency Response: Ability to respond appropriately in emergent situations.
  • Computer Skills: Working knowledge of computers and software applications is necessary.
