Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing custodial upkeep and sanitation within educational facilities. This role involves semi-skilled tasks related to the cleaning and maintenance of school properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the building and surrounding areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Conduct cleaning of light fixtures, windows, walls, furniture, bleachers, blinds, and outdoor stadiums.
  • Utilize specialized equipment for scrubbing, buffing, and waxing floors.
  • Clean, disinfect, and replenish supplies in designated restrooms.
  • Prepare for and clean up after events held in the school facilities during both daytime and evening hours.
  • Operate carpet cleaning and maintenance machinery.
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment as needed for various activities, following instructions from the head custodian or school administration.
  • Maintain the appearance of outdoor areas, including shrubs, grass, parking lots, and driveways.
  • Respond promptly to requests and concerns from staff members.
  • Perform minor repairs as necessary.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the relevant administrator.

Education Requirements

Certification/Licensure

No specific certification required.

Experience Requirements

Preferred minimum of one year of custodial experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with cleaning techniques, materials, and the proper use of cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to operate various cleaning machinery for floors and carpets.
  • Capable of understanding and following both written and verbal instructions.

Working Conditions

  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, moisture, and humidity.

Physical Requirements

  • Position may require climbing ladders and engaging in pushing or pulling activities.
  • Must possess sufficient strength and dexterity to operate cleaning equipment effectively.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull weights exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of standing, crouching, and climbing to perform various manual labor tasks.
