Financial Operations Officer

Position Overview: The Business Officer will work under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, applying extensive knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and business operations to the NeuroTools Vector Core and Lab activities. This role is essential for ensuring efficient financial processes.
Core Responsibilities:
- Oversee and enhance the financial operations of the NeuroTools Vector Core, which functions similarly to a small enterprise, delivering specialized services to both external and internal clients.
- Exercise independent oversight and responsibility for funds from diverse sources, ensuring precision and adherence to financial data and budgeting standards.
- Monitor and report on both pre- and post-award revenue, manage departmental expenditures, and supervise the financial components of projects for Principal Investigators.
- Handle billing and collections for contracts, assess expenses against approved budgets, and consolidate financial information from multiple sources.
- Advise leadership on necessary adjustments in account allocations, manage special financial initiatives, and consult with faculty regarding financial and accounting issues.
- Identify and strategize actions to achieve objectives and future budget requirements, seek opportunities to enhance efficiency and streamline operations, and promote the use of automation.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience: Entry-level candidates with a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Required Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational skills to manage competing deadlines, and the ability to maintain progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Experience: Familiarity with university systems, particularly Connect Carolina, iLabs, and ePro, is advantageous.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Capability to occasionally lift items weighing less than specified limits, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities: This role is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act, requiring the reporting of Clery crimes and completion of annual training regarding reporting obligations.
