Role Overview: Under the supervision of healthcare providers (MD, DO, DPM, NP, PA) or Registered Nurses, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) delivers clinical support and nursing care to patients, adhering to established nursing standards and state regulations. The LVN is an integral member of the healthcare team, responsible for assessing patient needs, contributing to care plans, and executing prescribed interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts nursing duties within the Licensed Vocational Nurse scope, including procedures, injections, medication administration, EKGs, and phlebotomy as per state regulations.
  • Implements educational plans for patients and families addressing common health issues and defined learning needs.
  • Coordinates patient care as instructed by healthcare providers and Registered Nurses, including referrals and follow-ups.
  • Documents patient complaints and prepares them for examinations according to established protocols.
  • Collects patient information telephonically and communicates effectively with the healthcare provider.
  • Performs focused nursing assessments and communicates findings to the healthcare team.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of patient assessments and care.
  • Reviews patient records and relevant information prior to provider consultations.
  • Ensures a safe clinical environment following OSHA standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Organizes and maintains treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper sterilization of instruments.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Manages medication documentation and follows policies for medication management.
  • Fulfills medication refill requests according to established protocols.
  • If IV certified, manages peripheral lines and monitors IV therapy.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current and unrestricted State Vocational Nursing license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • IV certification if required by the clinic.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures.
  • Proficient in electronic medical records.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies.
  • Skilled in performing medical procedures, injections, and phlebotomy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with patients and staff.
  • Compliance with Tuberculosis screening and immunity documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IV certification.
  • Two or more years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Capability to push or pull heavy objects with up to 25 pounds of force.
  • Fine motor skills for operating medical equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions.
  • Logical reasoning for problem-solving.
  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
