Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Ultrasound Specialist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our imaging services team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound studies to evaluate various organ systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform 2-D ultrasound examinations of the neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, scrotum, and extremities using proper selection and manipulation of ultrasound transducers and adjustments of ultrasound parameters.
  • Utilize pulse-wave, color-flow, or power Doppler technique during the evaluation of vascular structures when appropriate.
  • Assist in the performance of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy or fine needle aspiration procedures.
  • Understand the proper use of all ultrasound equipment and operate it in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  • Follow established hospital and service procedures for confirming patient identification and correct patient examination.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation.
  • Licensure or Certification: Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation; however, it is strongly desirable at GS-6 or above as evidence of possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed and accredited through ARDMS.
  • One or more years' experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer programs.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and stand for long periods of time.

The selected candidate will be required to serve a probationary period and to complete an online onboarding process. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
