Role Overview

The SBA Underwriter II plays a crucial role in the credit administration for Truliant's SBA lending division. This position involves evaluating both SBA and conventional commercial loan applications and preparing comprehensive SBA loan packages for committee approval.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough underwriting of SBA loan applications, including a detailed analysis of financial records and credit histories.
  • Utilize knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and loan eligibility criteria to assess applications for compliance and completeness.
  • Develop financial forecasts and maintain credit files that adhere to SBA SOP guidelines.
  • Compile borrower data comparisons against industry benchmarks.
  • Create credit memorandums for loan approvals and recommendations.
  • Prepare presentations for significant loan requests for review by the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.
  • Conduct annual credit assessments and maintain reports tracking ongoing relationships and financial documentation.
  • Support the development and revision of business loan policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Assist in credit analysis for specialized asset relationships and strategize accordingly.
  • Contribute to the management of the SBA loan portfolio's quality.
  • Serve as a backup for reviewing commercial real estate appraisals and EDRs when required.
  • Act as a resource for Business Lending Credit Theory among credit union staff.
  • Ensure accuracy in all SBA loan documentation.

Engage in various tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of SBA SOP, concepts, processes, and regulations.
  • In-depth understanding of real estate loans, both for investors and owner-occupied properties.
  • Solid grasp of accounting principles and the ability to analyze financial data using appropriate techniques.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong presentation capabilities.
  • Proficient in determining loan-to-value ratios and basic EDR requirements.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Excel and Word.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business processes within the credit union.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment.
  • Flexible and capable of adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to delivering exceptional service to Truliant's members.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and utilize a computer.
  • Capable of lifting or moving up to 5 pounds regularly and up to 10 pounds occasionally.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in SBA 7(a) credit underwriting is essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in analyzing business financial statements, structuring business loan requests, and preparing loan documentation is required.
  • Previous experience in financial services or business development is preferred.
