Role Overview

The SBA Underwriter II plays a crucial role in the credit administration of Truliant's SBA lending division. This position involves evaluating both SBA and conventional loan applications and preparing comprehensive loan packages for approval by the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough underwriting of SBA loan applications, analyzing financial histories and credit reports.
• Utilize knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and loan eligibility criteria to assess applications for compliance and accuracy.
• Develop financial forecasts and maintain credit files that adhere to SBA SOP guidelines.
• Compare borrower data against industry benchmarks and create credit memos for loan recommendations.
• Prepare presentations for larger loan requests to be reviewed by the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.
• Conduct annual credit assessments and maintain reports tracking the status of relationships and financial documentation.
• Support the ongoing development and refinement of business loan policies and procedures.
• Assist in credit analysis for specialized asset relationships and strategize on resolutions.
• Contribute to the management of the SBA loan portfolio's quality.
• Provide backup support for the review of commercial real estate appraisals and EDRs as necessary.
• Act as a resource for Business Lending Credit Theory for other credit union staff.
• Ensure accuracy in all SBA loan documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of SBA SOP, concepts, processes, and regulations.
• Extensive knowledge of real estate loans, including both investor and owner-occupied properties.
• Solid grasp of accounting principles, with the ability to analyze financial data using appropriate techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong presentation capabilities.
• Understanding of loan-to-value calculations and basic EDR requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with individuals at various organizational levels.
• Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Excel and Word.
• Comprehensive understanding of business processes within the credit union.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an office environment.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and resource allocation.
• Capacity to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to delivering outstanding service to Truliant's members.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping may be required.
• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and utilize a computer.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 5 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 10 pounds.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
• 5-7 years of experience in SBA 7(a) credit underwriting is essential.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in analyzing business financial statements and structuring business loan requests is required.
• Previous experience in financial services or business development is preferred.
