Role Overview

The SBA Underwriter II plays a crucial role in the credit administration for Truliant's SBA lending division. This position involves evaluating both SBA and conventional commercial loan applications and preparing comprehensive loan packages for committee review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate SBA loan applications by analyzing historical financial data and assessing business and personal credit histories.
  • Utilize knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and loan eligibility criteria to ensure applications meet all necessary requirements.
  • Develop financial forecasts and maintain credit files in accordance with SBA SOP guidelines.
  • Conduct comparative analyses of borrower data against industry benchmarks.
  • Prepare credit memorandums for loan approvals and recommendations.
  • Create presentations for significant loan requests to be reviewed by the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.
  • Conduct annual credit assessments and maintain updated reports tracking annual review relationships.
  • Assist in the ongoing refinement of business loan policies and procedures.
  • Support credit analysis for specialized asset relationships and strategize on management.
  • Contribute to the quality management of the SBA loan portfolio.
  • Serve as a backup reviewer for commercial real estate appraisals and related documents as necessary.
  • Act as a resource for Business Lending Credit Theory among Credit Union staff.
  • Ensure accuracy in all SBA loan documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

Engage in various tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of SBA SOP, concepts, processes, and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of real estate financing, both for investors and owner-occupied properties.
  • Solid grasp of accounting principles and the ability to analyze financial data effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficient presentation skills.
  • Understanding of loan-to-value calculations and basic EDR requirements.
  • Able to collaborate with individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly in MS Excel and Word.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business processes within the credit union.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional time management and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment.
  • Adaptable to shifting priorities and resource allocation.
  • Capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Dedicated to providing outstanding service to Truliant's members.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping may be required.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and utilize a computer.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 5 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 10 pounds.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in SBA 7(a) credit underwriting is essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in analyzing business financial statements and structuring business loan requests is required.
  • Prior experience in financial services or business development is preferred.
