Job Purpose

The SBA Underwriter II plays a crucial role in the credit administration for Truliant's SBA lending division. This position involves evaluating both SBA and traditional commercial loan applications and preparing comprehensive loan packages for approval by the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate SBA loan applications by analyzing historical financial data and assessing business and personal credit histories.
• Utilize knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), loan eligibility criteria, and underwriting methodologies to determine the eligibility and completeness of loan applications.
• Develop financial forecasts and create credit files that adhere to SBA SOP guidelines.
• Conduct comparative analyses of borrower data against industry benchmarks.
• Prepare credit memos to support loan approvals and recommendations.
• Generate presentations for significant loan requests to the SBA and Member Business Loan Committee.
• Conduct annual credit reviews and maintain reports tracking annual review relationships and financial document receipts.
• Assist in the ongoing development and revision of business loan policies and procedures as necessary.
• Support credit analysis for specialized asset relationships and strategize solutions.
• Contribute to the management of SBA loan portfolio quality.
• Provide backup support for reviewing commercial real estate appraisals and EDRs as needed.
• Act as a resource for Business Lending Credit Theory to fellow Credit Union staff.
• Ensure accuracy in all SBA loan documentation.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of SBA SOP, processes, and regulations is essential.
• Strong understanding of real estate loans, including both investor and owner-occupied properties.
• Proficient in accounting principles and capable of generating and analyzing research data, including financial analysis techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong presentation abilities.
• Understanding of loan-to-value determinations and basic EDR requirements.
• Able to collaborate effectively with individuals at various organizational levels.
• Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Excel and Word.
• Comprehensive understanding of all business processes within the credit union.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Capable of working in a general office environment.
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and resource allocation.
• Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong commitment to delivering excellent service to Truliant's members.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping may be required.
• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and utilize a computer.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 5 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 10 pounds.

Education and Experience

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
• 5-7 years of experience in SBA 7(a) credit underwriting is required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in analyzing business financial statements, structuring business loan requests, and generating related documentation is required.
• Previous experience in financial services or business development is preferred.
