Job Summary:

As a Patient Financial Services Representative at St. Peter's Health, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial well-being of our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to project a positive and helpful demeanor while interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and process patient deposits, deductibles, and co-insurance amounts in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete patient estimates and financial assessments to determine the most feasible method of payment.
  • Evaluate patient eligibility for Medicaid, SSI, charity, and other financial assistance programs.
  • Document all pertinent information on patient accounts and track patient assistance applications and HIPAA release of information forms.
  • Maintain knowledge of resources available to aid patients with financial issues, both within St. Peter's and outside agencies.
  • Handle customer service inquiries, including charge explanations, insurance activity, and payment arrangements.
  • Make outbound calls to set up payment arrangements and follow up on delinquent accounts.
  • Manage accounts requiring transfer to outside collections agencies and process patient correspondence, queries, and disputes.
  • Represent the hospital in court proceedings as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations related to Patient Financial Services.
  • Respond to assigned tasks within 2-7 business days and log unresolved issues for referral to the business office management team.
  • Reconcile credit card transactions, daily cash drawer reconciliation, and post and deposit client billing payments from other departments.
  • Report trending call issues to the QA Coordinator.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of medical billing and insurance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
