POSITION SUMMARY:
Penn State Schuylkill is seeking a part-time Basic Needs Support Specialist dedicated to assisting students in accessing University and community resources.
This role encompasses 24 hours per week over a 30-week period during the academic year when students are present on campus.
The Basic Needs Support Specialist will focus on helping students fulfill their fundamental requirements, including food security, housing stability, financial aid, and access to essential services.
The primary objective is to empower students to overcome obstacles to their success by offering guidance, resources, and referrals related to their basic living necessities.
This position does not include mental or physical health services.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Resource Identification and Referral: Identify and connect students with on-campus and community resources related to food, housing, transportation, childcare, and financial assistance.
Maintain an up-to-date database of resources and services available to students, both on and off-campus.Student Advocacy:
Advocate for students' essential needs within the college system to ensure they have access to necessary services and support.
Assist students in navigating institutional processes related to financial aid, housing applications, and other basic needs services.Case Management:
Provide tailored support to students facing challenges related to basic needs, assisting them in developing action plans and connecting with appropriate resources.
Follow up with students to ensure their needs are being met and adjust support plans as necessary.Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with other college departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support. Establish partnerships with local community organizations to expand resources available to students.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Track and report on the usage and outcomes of basic needs services to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Maintain confidential records of student interactions and support provided.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
This position typically requires an associate degree, preferably a bachelor's degree, in Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field.
Previous experience in case management, social services, or a related area, preferably within an educational setting.SKILLS:
Strong understanding of issues related to poverty, food insecurity, housing instability, and other challenges affecting students' basic needs. Excellent communication, organizational, and advocacy skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds and experiences of college students.
This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
