Role Overview:
The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the electrical engineering expert for RYAM's operations. You will oversee, plan, and execute the design, development, and maintenance of comprehensive electrical and instrumentation systems to ensure efficient power supply throughout the facility. Your responsibilities will include expert-level planning, design, development, implementation, documentation, support, and enhancement of mill electrical and instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and provide insights on electrical designs, construction drawings, and installation protocols. Collaborate with project teams to ensure uniformity in installations across the facility.
  • Identify and communicate relevant industry standards to project teams. Lead the creation of new equipment specifications for various applications.
  • Define project boundaries and scope for all power system studies. Review and approve electrical study outputs.
  • Offer subject matter expertise and guidance during construction phases to resolve design-related challenges, advise on quality assurance issues, and conduct pre-startup inspections.
  • Actively engage in the planning and execution of complex field projects. Collaborate with project engineers to formulate detailed risk mitigation strategies for systems handling process loads. Review electrical testing outcomes.
  • Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, project funding requests, economic assessments, and cost estimations for modifications and enhancements. Partner with consulting engineering firms for larger, more intricate projects.
  • Provide expert support for the electrical and instrumentation maintenance operations, focusing on reliability improvements through condition monitoring systems, troubleshooting, repair design, and planning, along with direct supervision of maintenance personnel.
  • Oversee the preparation of drawings for assigned projects. Select equipment and materials for new facilities and modifications. Analyze equipment specifications and bid packages, making informed recommendations.
  • Supervise contractor activities on-site. Advise maintenance supervisors on fieldwork for assigned projects. Coordinate with procurement and logistics for the delivery of new equipment and materials, ensuring successful project completion within budget.
  • Investigate equipment issues related to material selection, equipment enhancement, and repair versus replacement evaluations. Inspect mill equipment during downtimes and recommend actions to mitigate failures and ensure safety.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of all project phases, including costs, equipment manuals, material certifications, etc. Manage spare parts procurement and coordinate training for mechanics, electricians, and operators as necessary for new systems.
  • Prepare cost estimates, equipment assessments, project funding requests, and designs for multidisciplinary projects. Ensure completion and cost management of all assigned projects.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with over 8 years of electrical experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience in pulp or paper operations is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with mill teams, project teams, and management.
  • Results-driven and motivated by challenging tasks; demonstrates effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, innovation, and creativity.
  • Able to lead productive meetings and present information in public forums.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and exhibiting flexibility.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures, regulations, and professional literature.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in job-related software, including Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, EasyPower, and SAP.
  • Effective communicator, capable of presenting information and addressing inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Utilizes advanced mathematics and applies engineering principles and theories.
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
