Key Responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Engineer:
- Evaluate and provide insights on electrical designs, construction drawings, and installation protocols. Collaborate with project teams to ensure uniformity in installations throughout the facility.
- Identify relevant industry standards for project teams. Lead the creation of new equipment specifications for various applications.
- Define the scope and boundaries for all project power system analyses. Review and approve deliverables from electrical studies.
- Offer expert consultation during construction to resolve design-related challenges, advise on quality assurance/quality control issues, and conduct pre-startup inspections.
- Engage actively in the planning and execution of complex field projects. Collaborate with project engineers to formulate detailed risk mitigation strategies for systems handling process loads. Assess electrical test outcomes.
- Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, project appropriation requests, economic assessments, and cost estimations for enhancements and modifications. Partner with consulting engineering firms for larger, more intricate projects.
- Provide expertise for the electrical and instrument maintenance operations of the mill, focusing on reliability improvements through condition monitoring systems, troubleshooting, repair design, and planning, along with supervising both hourly mechanics and contractors.
- Oversee the preparation of drawings for assigned capital and other projects. Select equipment and materials for new mill facilities and modifications. Analyze equipment and contract specifications and bid packages, making informed recommendations.
- Supervise contractor fieldwork. Advise maintenance supervision on the fieldwork of assigned projects. Coordinate with purchasing, traffic, and receiving for the delivery of new equipment and materials, ensuring successful completion of all project phases within budget.
- Investigate various equipment issues, including material selection, equipment enhancement, and repair versus replacement analyses. Inspect mill equipment during shutdowns and assess equipment deterioration and failures, recommending necessary actions to mitigate failures and ensure safety.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of all project phases, including costs, equipment manuals, drawings, and material certifications. Procure spare parts and coordinate training for mechanics, electricians, and operators as needed for new equipment and systems.
- Prepare cost estimates, equipment evaluations, project appropriation requests (PARs), and designs for multidisciplinary projects. Responsible for the completion and financial oversight of all assigned projects.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with over 8 years of electrical experience in an industrial setting.
- Experience in pulp or paper operations is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with mill teams, project teams, and management.
- Results-driven and motivated by challenging situations; demonstrates strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, innovation, and creativity skills.
- Able to lead effective meetings, including those with external agencies, and present in public forums.
- Capable of prioritizing tasks and exhibiting flexibility.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures, governmental regulations, professional journals, and periodicals.
- Demonstrated proficiency in job-related software; knowledge of Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, EasyPower, and SAP is preferred.
- Ability to present information and respond to inquiries from individuals, groups, or management; communicates effectively in both verbal and written forms.
