We are currently looking for a CNC Machining Specialist to enhance our already proficient team. We seek a proactive, hands-on CNC Programmer/Operator with experience in production, quality assurance, and mechanical prototyping. The primary responsibilities will include operating CNC machines, conducting pre-operation tests, programming and monitoring machinery during product assembly, and inspecting equipment at the end of each shift to identify any necessary repairs. This role will involve collaboration with various departments, including manufacturing operations, quality assurance, and engineering, to support the design, development, and production of Cree Lighting products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineering from concept to production, including the fabrication and modification of products through manual prototyping and CNC machining services.
  • Perform CNC Milling Operations, including setup, testing, programming, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
  • Interpret schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions, CAD and CAM software, dimensional prints, and layouts to execute tasks.
  • Facilitate first article inspections for new production runs.
  • Manage post-processing, loading, and programming on equipment.
  • Oversee tooling and fixturing inventory.
  • Design work holding solutions.
  • Conduct minor assembly of machined components.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain required certifications.
  • Utilize manufacturing equipment, including manual mills, CNC milling machines, sheet metal press brakes, and various hand tools.
  • Inspect machinery and products for quality assurance.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery.
  • Schedule and maintain machines according to preventative maintenance plans.
  • Inventory, stock, and handle materials safely to support operations.
  • Manage and prioritize requests from initiation to completion.
  • Complete tasks creatively and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate across company functions to ensure project success.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical work involving sheet metal, manual metalworking machines, and CNC operations.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, machining, and metalworking.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend instructions and perform multiple tasks within a single day.
  • Capability to work independently while knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, including Excel and Word or their equivalents.
  • Demonstrated ownership of new and diverse requests while exploring opportunities to add value to the team and Cree Lighting's achievements.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent training in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with Mastercam Software and Solidworks is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Brother (4-Axis) CNC Machines or similar equipment.
  • Experience with Haas (5-Axis) CNC Machines or similar equipment.
  • Proficiency in CNC Milling Machine setup, testing, programming, operations, monitoring, inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to use various hand tools, punches, grinders, band & miter saws, drill presses, sanding, bead blasting, shearing, and cutting equipment.
  • 1-2 years of related experience is required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver 25 pounds or more as needed.
  • Capability to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, up to 4 continuous hours and up to 8-12 hours during a shift.
  • Frequent walking throughout the department/building.
  • Use of hands/arms to operate required equipment and perform repetitive motion activities.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily job activities.
  • Experience operating power equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures.
