Job Overview

Position Summary: As a Field Service Engineer at Bourn & Koch, you will be an integral part of our Field Service team. Your primary responsibilities will involve gaining expertise in BK products and controls utilized in our machinery. You will predominantly work in the field, executing installation and repair tasks as assigned by the Bourn & Koch sales division. In addition to your core duties, you will provide valuable feedback to enhance our installation processes and contribute to customer satisfaction initiatives, supporting Bourn & Koch's commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical principles as they relate to machine tools.
  • Deliver service and customer support during field operations.
  • Oversee all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and testing activities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues, providing effective solutions.
  • Travel extensively, approximately 90% of the time.
  • Prepare estimates for labor and materials required for repairs.

Job Duties:

  • Provide exceptional service and support during field assignments.
  • Align workflow with scheduled tasks.
  • Manage all aspects of installation, repair, maintenance, and testing on-site.
  • Diagnose technical problems and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Generate timely and comprehensive service reports.
  • Document operational processes thoroughly.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and utilize field automation tools.
  • Adhere to all company field protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the technical team and share insights across the organization.
  • Understand customer needs and offer suitable recommendations.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients.
  • Contribute to achieving organizational goals.
  • Ensure adherence to Bourn & Koch's quality standards in your area of responsibility.
  • Utilize electrical expertise to resolve wiring issues on machinery.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge to diagnose and troubleshoot machine problems.
  • Assist in configuring machine settings for optimal operation.
  • When not engaged in field service tasks, you may be expected to make sales calls for future business opportunities or support projects in-house.

Competencies Required:

  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical practices related to machine tools.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Mathematical proficiency.
  • Technical aptitude, including the ability to read blueprints.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Windows.

Supervisory Role: This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: The role is set in an industrial environment with moderate noise levels.

Physical Requirements: The technician must be capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds to shoulder height.

Position Type: This is a full-time role with typical hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with 10 years of experience in a service-related position. Experience with CNC controls is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of trade school or specialized training in Machine and/or CNC operations is advantageous.
