Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Safety Coordinator to join our team at the Providence Housing Authority. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in providing direct services to victims of crime and coordinating comprehensive programs and supportive services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-touch direct services to victims of crime, including information and resources on legal process, shelter care, housing clinics, treatment and education programs, legal assistance, and financial aid.
  • Keep statistical records of victims and case management notes and activity in our database, maintaining data confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with public housing staff to safely relocate victims of crime.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with in-state and out-of-state landlords, community groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide triage and crisis intervention services, including the development of safety plans, crisis counseling, scene response, and completion of protection order paperwork.
  • Arrange accommodations for shelter and safety or for criminal justice proceedings.
  • Work closely with the Housing Police Unit to track crime trends in housing developments.
  • Facilitate and coordinate trainings, workshops, and educational programs on issues such as domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and other assaults and crimes.
  • Assist victims of crime in completing applications for the Victims of Crime Compensation Program.
  • Serve as a liaison between victims and criminal justice representatives, including language interpretation, coordination of handicap accessibility, and assistance for low literacy.
  • Coordinate with the Providence Police Department and prosecuting agencies to provide victim services, mental health support, and case follow-up.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Criminal Justice.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with crime victims or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) required.
  • Knowledge of out-of-state victim relocation resources, state and local laws relating to domestic violence and crime victims, and modern office procedures.
  • Valid Rhode Island Driver's License.
