Emergency Veterinary Care Technician

Position Overview:
As an Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician at Ethos Veterinary Health, you will play a crucial role in delivering urgent medical care to pets in need. Our facility is committed to providing exceptional veterinary services, ensuring that every pet receives the highest level of attention and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and address the needs of patients in the emergency and critical care unit.
  • Engage in patient triage to enhance operational efficiency; keep clients informed during the triage process.
  • Assist in stabilizing patients through various medical procedures, including IV catheter placement and drug administration.
  • Monitor patients closely and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and administer treatments for patients arriving at the emergency department.
  • Facilitate patient discharge while providing comprehensive client education on home care and medication.
  • Induce and supervise general anesthesia and sedation protocols.
  • Communicate regularly with pet owners regarding their pet's condition throughout their visit.
  • Collaborate effectively with the veterinary care team to discuss treatment plans and address nursing care issues.
  • Demonstrate technical skills such as venipuncture and safe animal restraint.
  • Adhere to established hospital policies when addressing client concerns.
  • Participate in mentorship opportunities for Veterinary Technician Specialists (VTS).
  • Work rotating holiday shifts as required in the emergency and critical care department.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation as necessary, with shifts subject to change.
  • Document all medical records clearly and accurately, in line with hospital policies.
  • Understand and enforce OSHA regulations and safety standards within the hospital.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:
Three 12-hour shifts, including one weekend shift and two holidays per year.

Compensation:
Salary range of $20 - $35, based on skills assessment and credentialing, with higher rates available for VTS.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an AVMA-Accredited Veterinary Technician Program is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a solid work ethic are essential.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new situations are necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

This role involves repetitive motions, including periods of sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
