Job Summary

The Community Resource Navigator plays a vital role in connecting patrons with mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, or exclusion/resource limitation issues to library and community resources and services. This position requires a strong understanding of the needs of at-risk populations and the ability to build relationships with community partners to provide comprehensive support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the needs of patrons and connect them to existing services, including job search assistance, mental health support, and housing aid.
  • Build and maintain a professional network of city/county agencies, neighborhood groups, social services agencies, and volunteer organizations to provide resources and services to vulnerable or at-risk individuals.
  • Regularly visit all library locations to address the individual needs of each location and provide support to colleagues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address situations with patrons that may benefit from community resources and services and to debrief after incidents.
  • Work with the Library Resources Manager to determine training for colleagues on topics related to working with at-risk populations and develop training modules.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build relationships across departments.
  • Skilled in assessment and employing de-escalation tactics, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software, including MS Office, email, security camera, and patron incident tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed training on trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and mental health first-aid.
  • Previous work experience in a library setting is preferred.
  • Spanish language skills and/or experience working with patrons from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Working Conditions

The Community Resource Navigator will work in a clean, comfortable environment that can be occasionally noisy. The position requires the ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
