Position Overview:

The role is situated within the Department of Social Services, specifically associated with the New York City Human Resources Administration and the Department of Homeless Services. The selected candidate will engage with Cash Assistance beneficiaries to address case-related actions stemming from Agency determinations impacting CA benefits, SNAP, and Medicaid. Responsibilities will include facilitating hearings with beneficiaries, analyzing records, guiding clients through Fair Hearing procedures, and assembling documentation for presentation at the Office of Administrative Hearings.

  • Facilitate hearings with beneficiaries to assess the validity of Agency actions.
  • Analyze records to verify the correctness of actions taken or identify any discrepancies.
  • Guide clients regarding their rights to contest unfavorable decisions.
  • Compile electronic documentation for hearings.
  • Oversee and assess individual System queues to ensure timely processing.
  • Provide emergency support at various locations within the designated Region.

Work Location: Hunts Point, Bronx

Hours/Schedule: 9am – 5 pm with flexibility

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma with three years of experience in social or human services or related fields.
2. Bachelor’s degree with eighteen months of experience as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist.
3. College credits may be considered in lieu of work experience.

Preferred Skills:
- Strong communication and writing abilities.
- Familiarity with Agency operations and New York State social service regulations.
- Proficient analytical and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented approach.
- Knowledge of FHEMS, WMS, POS, NYCWAY, SEAMS.

This position is accessible to qualified individuals with disabilities who meet the criteria for the 55-a Program. Public Service Loan Forgiveness may be applicable to eligible candidates. New York City residency is not a requirement for this position.
