This position is remote, but candidates must reside in Portland, Oregon or SW Washington.
Position Overview
This role encompasses advanced accounting responsibilities within the organization. Key duties include maintaining the general ledger, performing analyses, and generating reports. The Senior Financial Accountant will also engage in internal and external communications, auditing processes, and general administrative tasks.
Responsibilities include coding accounts payable invoices and check requests, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and generating ad hoc reports.
Core Areas of Focus:1. Treasury operations, including initiating wire transfers and automated clearing house transactions.
2. Review of behavioral health contracts, payment tracking, and calculations.
3. Accounting for alternative payment methodologies and payment calculation reviews.
4. Accounting for various claims service activities and payment assessments.
5. Management of allocations and facilitation of quarterly meetings with company leadership.
6. Revenue accounting for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.
7. Preparation of invoices for contracts and administrative services.
8. Intercompany account reconciliations and related journal entries.
9. Maintenance of fixed asset and prepaid expense subledgers, including asset additions, disposals, monthly depreciation, and compliance with company policies.
10. Management of the company credit card program and expense reimbursements, including transaction coding and compliance reviews.
11. Preparation of monthly internal reports and accompanying financial letters.
12. Coordination of insurance renewal preparations and data collection efforts across the organization.
Payroll and Benefits Accounting:
Review of bi-weekly payroll and manual checks for approval, preparation of check requests for benefits outside the payroll system, and management of bi-weekly 401(k) uploads.
Tax Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll regulations, manage correspondence with payroll processors regarding tax filings, and oversee payroll tax and workers' compensation filings.
Prepare complex journal entries and estimates; assist in reviewing entries made by others.
Conduct monthly reconciliations for complex accounts and maintain appropriate general ledger support.
Analyze data for accuracy and compliance; coordinate necessary corrections.
Prepare advanced trend analyses and interact with accounts payable staff on related activities.
Reporting Responsibilities:
Generate monthly financial reporting packages and prepare external financial reports, including regulatory filings.
Respond to regulatory inquiries and develop reports for ad-hoc requests using Excel or GL software.
Maintain and create financial reports in reporting software and participate in presenting financial statements at Finance Committee and Board meetings.
Support year-end audit requests and assist in the preparation of audited financial statements.
Internal & External Relations:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external entities.
Serve as a resource for finance staff and support the development of junior accounting personnel.

Qualifications:Required:
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience (3-4 years may be considered with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and relevant public accounting or financial reporting experience).
Preferred:
Experience in the health insurance sector, Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, CPA license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient understanding of GAAP and relevant regulations, internal controls, and departmental policies.
Strong analytical and research skills, mastery of core accounting functions, and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
Attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a high degree of initiative and professionalism.
Ability to collaborate effectively, manage time efficiently, and adapt to feedback and change.
