Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW:

Join a prominent player in the aerospace sector focused on the production and assembly of high-precision structural components for aircraft.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this role involves determining optimal manufacturing techniques and processes for various customer-specific projects, ranging from simple to complex. The specialist will oversee the production process to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and company standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate engineering design documents to establish manufacturing methods and processes for components, including creating initial sketches and initiating the design and construction of necessary tooling within budget constraints.
  • Compile a bill of materials for sourcing raw materials, fasteners, and other components, while detailing external vendor services required for component production (e.g., heat treatment, anodizing, painting). Review and approve vendor manufacturing plans and monitor progress.
  • Manage individual part programs, developing and maintaining comprehensive production plans that ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing while coordinating all manufacturing phases, including process planning, standard work instructions, tooling, and component production, ensuring adherence to customer and company standards. Maintain organized records for all parts.
  • Continuously assess alternative manufacturing methods and processes to identify opportunities for cost savings, product enhancements, competitive advantages, and capacity constraints.
  • Prepare modifications to accommodate updated customer requirements. Regularly review progress with customers, addressing design errors, proposed rework, and manufacturing challenges.
  • Investigate nonconforming parts, manage nonconformance reports, and create rework/repair procedures and documentation for customer submissions as necessary.
  • Provide guidance to production personnel and shop supervisors on the proper use of tools and the implementation of planned methods and processes, offering technical support as issues arise, analyzing problems, and executing corrective actions as needed.
  • Estimate engineering time and tooling costs for customer design modifications and submit these estimates to the Estimating Department.
  • Assist the Estimating Department in forecasting future orders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably within the aerospace industry.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, ideally in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient understanding of fabrication, assembly, and shop mathematics, including algebra, trigonometry, and spatial relations.
  • Familiarity with material processes and the design and use of tools, fixtures, and gauges is expected.
  • Some knowledge of computerized systems is preferred.
  • SAFETY: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, as well as product quality standards set by regulatory agencies. QUALITY: Uphold a commitment to quality performance in all tasks and projects undertaken.
