Job Summary

The Boston Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Guidance Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, the successful candidate will provide academic support and guidance to students, helping them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement guidance programs to support student academic and personal development.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist students in setting and achieving academic and career goals, including college and vocational planning.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of student progress and needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in guidance counseling and education, incorporating new ideas and strategies into practice.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling, education, or related field.
  • MA DESE School Guidance Counselor License at the appropriate level.
  • Experience working with urban youth in an educational or human services setting.
  • Ability to meet the BPS Standards of Effective Practice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with database management.
  • Demonstrated writing ability.
  • Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
