Role Objective:

The Lead Mortgage Consultant is responsible for originating primary mortgage loans, enhancing the visibility of Civista Bank and its lending solutions within the real estate sector, and addressing the financial requirements of the community. This role embodies Civista Bank's commitment to enriching the financial well-being of our employees and stakeholders, thereby positively impacting the communities we serve.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Engage in outreach to secure primary mortgage and home equity loans through referral networks, including real estate agents, builders, financial advisors, insurance professionals, and legal representatives, as well as through community involvement.
  • Conduct meetings with clients and potential clients at various venues.
  • Facilitate the completion of loan applications and all preliminary processing tasks, which include gathering necessary documentation from potential clients in accordance with bank policies and underwriting standards.
  • Educate potential clients about the bank's underwriting criteria and relevant governmental regulations.
  • Evaluate loan requests based on institutional policies and the types of loans available.
  • Present and discuss various loan alternatives with potential clients.
  • Investigate new legislation and regulations that may influence the bank's residential lending practices, ensuring compliance by advising senior management and implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Handle incoming inquiries and arrange appointments.
  • Communicate complex loan approvals or denials to borrowers, real estate agents, or builders.
  • Disseminate market insights, rate information, and general loan details to the real estate community as directed by bank leadership.
  • Promote and engage in the bank's specialized credit initiatives and other community reinvestment programs.
  • Actively participate in local business and community events, maintaining strong relationships with local builders, real estate professionals, clients, and prospects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned that support the primary responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in Mortgage Lending within a financial institution or loan office environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Finance, or three years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of banking industry practices, policies, regulations, and laws related to mortgage lending.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance requirements and adherence to Fair Lending laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel) with precise data entry capabilities; adept at using spreadsheets and creating formulas. Ability to quickly learn specific software necessary for the role.
  • High degree of initiative, thoroughness, accuracy, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented with robust analytical abilities.
  • High level of confidentiality is mandatory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects with varying deadlines.

Job Requirements:

  • This role necessitates the Lead Mortgage Consultant to be frequently engaged outside of Civista Bank to generate sales.
  • Position involves potential eye strain due to extensive use of computer screens, reviewing reports, and completing documentation.
  • Ability to focus on tasks at hand, even in potentially distracting environments.
  • Physical capability to lift and move loan files weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Some travel may be required for meetings, training sessions, and visits to real estate offices.
