Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant with Mercy Health System, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in a dynamic medical office environment. Key Responsibilities

Rooms patients, collects assessment data, and prepares patients according to specific needs.
Assists in examination, treatment, and other clinic procedures.
Assists with laboratory procedures, screening tests, and quality improvement projects.
Answers telephone calls, responds to inquiries, and directs callers to appropriate personnel or initiates a triage slip for response by medical personnel.
Schedules appointments and enters appointment dates and times into the computerized scheduler.
Conducts reminder calls to patients.
Greets and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors.
Registers patients by verifying that their records are up to date and accurate.
Makes appropriate changes in the computer system and on patient charts.
Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
Collects payment from patients and issues receipts.
Prepares and maintains patient charts.
Maintains and orders supplies.

Requirements

Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Experience in a clinic setting is preferred.
Current CMA certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or RMA certification through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or CCMA certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.
Medication injection training and pharmacology competency to perform medication administration.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested.
Acceptable driving record per Mercy Health System's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

Physical Demands

The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Manual dexterity is needed to operate equipment, perform procedures, operate the telephone, and keyboard. Must be able to lift and transfer patients.
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, handle, finger, and feel; reach; talk and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell.
This job requires the employee to exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Pushing and pulling equipment to provide care is required.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include frequent close vision, occasionally distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

This job requires working in a fast-paced medical office environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines. The employee must be able to work effectively in a team environment and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
