Job Summary:

As a Medical Assistant in our Oncology Clinic, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting healthcare professionals with daily activities, preparing patients for examinations, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist healthcare professionals with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments
Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vital signs and collecting medical history
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical history, test results, and treatment plans
Assist with laboratory procedures, screening tests, and quality improvement projects
Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and initiate triage slips as needed
Schedule appointments, enter appointment dates and times into the computerized scheduler, and conduct reminder calls to patients
Register patients, verify their records, and make necessary changes to the computer system and patient charts
Coordinate referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices
Collect payment from patients and issue receipts as needed
Prepare and maintain patient charts, including updating medical history and treatment plans
Maintain and order supplies as needed

Education and Experience:

Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
Experience in a clinic setting is preferred

Certification and Licensure:

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days
Medication injection training and pharmacology is a required competency to perform medication administration

Special Physical Demands:

The special physical demands of this position include manual dexterity to operate equipment, perform procedures, and use a telephone and keyboard. You must be able to lift and transfer patients. While performing the duties of this job, you will frequently stand, walk, handle, finger, and feel; reach; talk and hear. You will occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell. This job requires exerting 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally. You will push and pull equipment to provide care. Specific vision abilities required by this job include frequent close vision, occasionally distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
