Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator II to join our Water Service Department. As an Equipment Operator II, you will be responsible for operating specialized motor equipment to support the City's operations. This includes transporting materials, tools, and personnel to job sites, as well as removing debris or other materials from job sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate motor equipment to transport materials, tools, and personnel to job sites.
  • Remove debris or other materials from job sites.
  • Work with crews repairing water service lines, water mains, and concrete, asphalt work.
  • Operate hand and power tools and equipment to support maintenance operations.
  • Assist in the operation of specialized motor equipment to support City operations.
  • Perform operational tests and inspections of facility systems and components.
  • Inspect motor equipment and perform minor maintenance, reporting malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as completing job-related logs and forms.

Requirements

  • Requires completion of 10th grade in high school.
  • High school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training is preferred.
  • Minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City's policies.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of pipe repair techniques and maintenance.
  • Ability to work in emergency situations due to weather or operational issues.
