Compensation Overview: The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and encompasses a wide spectrum of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary will be influenced by various factors, including the role's scope, complexity, and location, as well as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.

As a key member of the Enterprise Technology Solutions (ETS) team, you will join a strategic and collaborative group that is passionate about enhancing our business and technology capabilities, paving the way for superior solutions.

In your role as Lead Architect, you will be instrumental in defining the target state of a multi-cloud engineering ecosystem that accelerates software delivery across Travelers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with technology and business leaders to define the target state, paving the way for success through the delivery of emerging technologies that transform and optimize business operations.
• Articulate a clear architectural vision that aligns engineering and architecture leadership, guiding delivery teams in building Travelers' next-generation engineering platform.
• Motivate high-performing Engineers and Architects to achieve excellence through coaching, mentoring, and empowerment.
• Utilize your extensive DevOps and Software Architecture experience to support a growing engineering community.
• Bring creativity and innovative thinking to a team focused on building world-class engineering experiences on AWS, leveraging event-driven architecture, DevOps best practices, API-first design patterns, vulnerability management, EKS, IAC, IAM, ML, and Gen AI.
• Exhibit high integrity by responsibly challenging the status quo while being considerate of diverse perspectives.
• Contribute as a valued team member within a dynamic community of enterprise architecture leaders tasked with establishing a unified enterprise cloud-first architecture vision.
• Be results-driven and continuously enhance your technology expertise through hands-on work and certification programs.

What Will You Do?

• Oversee architecture responsibilities within a major segment of Technology Architecture in support of the Digital Enablement business unit.
• Leverage your broad DevOps and Software Architecture experience to bolster a growing engineering community.
• Engage with senior leadership within Technology and Business to establish architecture priorities and direction that support business objectives.
• Demonstrate strong thought leadership in the pursuit of modern architecture principles and technology modernization.
• Drive ongoing technology transformation to reduce technical debt.
• Foster collaborative relationships with Senior Software Engineering partners.
• Identify opportunities to leverage technological advancements through analysis of key industry and technology trends to evaluate their potential impact on the enterprise.
• Define and lead technology proof of concepts to validate the feasibility of architectural solutions.
• Engage in hands-on prototyping of new technology solutions.
• Collaborate with Software Engineering peers to execute proof of technologies.
• Establish target state technology architecture and roadmaps.
• Ensure alignment of IT initiatives with established target states.
• Build strong partnerships with engineering teams to align skills with technology direction.
• Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and its alignment with enterprise strategy.
• Continuously enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• A visionary leader with a proven track record of developing high-quality enterprise solutions.
• Results-driven with strong architecture and engineering skills, and a deep understanding of modern technologies including AWS, Cloud-Native, Kubernetes, Event-Driven Architecture, API-first best practices, and Gen AI.
• A bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience, with 5+ years of technology architecture leadership experience.
• A demonstrated history of mentoring architects and engineers.
• Organizational and transformational experience in an agile operating model.
• Experience in defining strategic technology direction and architectural vision for an organization.
• Strong software engineering experience.
• Experience in developing technology target states and roadmaps that align with short and long-term business goals.
• A proven ability to influence senior leadership.
• A solid understanding of value creation and business capability models.
• An innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
• Hands-on technical experience in building test-driven solutions within the last three years.
• Experience executing technology modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud-native, API Strategy, and Event-Driven Architectures.
• Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or substantial architecture experience on Cloud.
• A good understanding of security.
• Experience with large-scale technology platforms.
• Hands-on experience with data technologies on cloud.

What is a Must Have?

• A bachelor's degree or its equivalent in work experience.
• Six years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture within a line of business or enterprise area.
