Job Overview

HME Specialists LLC is in search of a motivated Patient Intake Specialist to enhance our pharmacy operations. This role requires in-person engagement.

Position Summary:

The selected candidate will be tasked with confirming insurance benefits for specialized medications and services, as well as managing and monitoring authorization requests. Effective communication regarding referral updates and ensuring prompt processing of referrals will also be key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct benefit verification for all patient insurance plans, ensuring accurate documentation of medication coverage, administration supplies, and related infusion services.
  • Document all pertinent information related to coinsurance, copays, deductibles, and authorization requirements.
  • Estimate patient financial responsibilities based on benefit verification and payer contracts or company self-pay pricing.
  • Initiate and follow up on prior authorizations, pre-determinations, or medical reviews, including the collection and review of clinical documents for submission.
  • Maintain communication with patients, referral sources, and other departments regarding referral status, coverage, and necessary updates.
  • Assist patients expressing financial need with enrollment in manufacturer copay assistance programs and foundations.
  • Prepare new patient start of care documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

  • In-person attendance required.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Overtime may be necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in home infusion is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with referrals, benefit verifications, and authorizations is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical intake or reimbursement is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care reimbursement guidelines, with the ability to interpret payer contract fee schedules based on NDC and HCPCS units.
  • Strong multitasking abilities to manage various referrals and priorities while meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations is essential.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
  • Familiarity with CPR+ is preferred.
