Role Overview
The Lead Mortgage Risk Analyst is essential in evaluating and processing loan applications, determining the creditworthiness of applicants, and ensuring adherence to lending regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Compliance:
Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure loan compliance with relevant agency and investor guidelines.
Decision Making and Efficiency:
Make timely decisions in line with departmental service level agreements (SLA), maintaining productivity and quality standards, with an average of six decisions monthly for new loans and resubmissions.
Utilization of Automated Underwriting Systems:
Employ automated underwriting systems (such as Encompass, LPA, Desktop Underwriter) to evaluate risk, marketability, and documentation requirements for borrowers. Ensure precise data entry to support automated decision-making processes.
Manual Underwriting Proficiency:
Implement manual underwriting standards for loans that do not receive automated approval.
Effective Communication:
Provide clear and concise conditions for loans when making decisions.
Expertise and Mentorship:
Offer guidance and support to processing and production teams on training matters and automated underwriting systems. Keep management updated on ongoing issues requiring immediate attention.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- VA Automatic and DE Designation
- LAPP SAR designation
- Minimum of 5 years in the mortgage sector, including 3 years of frontline underwriting for FHA/VA/Conventional loans
- 2+ years of experience with mortgage software
- Proficient in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
- Experience with purchase transactions, particularly in new construction, is preferred
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple priorities.
