Since its inception in 1985, the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) has been dedicated to providing equitable and dignified access to top-tier health care for individuals and families facing homelessness in the greater Boston area. Each year, we serve over 12,000 homeless individuals, ensuring they receive comprehensive health services ranging from preventive dental care to advanced cancer treatment. Our dedicated team of clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health specialists operates in more than 60 locations, serving some of the most vulnerable yet resilient members of our community.

Position Summary:

We are seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who are passionate about working with underserved populations. The selected candidates will deliver comprehensive, high-quality primary, episodic, and recuperative care at our Medical Respite site.

Work Schedule: Per Diem: Flexible hours as needed, including weekdays and weekends, with 10-hour shifts available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive, high-quality episodic and recuperative care at our nationally recognized respite program.
  • Conduct thorough patient histories, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and initiate treatment in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists, hospitals, recuperative care, and detox facilities as necessary, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with BHCHP physicians in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.
  • Educate patients on health promotion, disease treatment, and prevention strategies.
  • Contribute as a member of a multidisciplinary team in patient care.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with BHCHP guidelines, utilizing standard documentation forms.
  • Ensure active licensure with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, along with maintaining hospital privileges and CPR training.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • A minimum of one year of direct experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Willingness to obtain an X waiver for prescribing Buprenorphine.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved populations, including those with mental health issues, homelessness, or substance use disorders is preferred.
  • Certification in life support training (e.g., CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course with a hands-on, in-person component is required. If not certified prior to the start date, certification must be submitted within 60 days of employment commencement.
