Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodial Worker to join our Environmental Services team at MedStar Health. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Services: Perform thorough daily cleaning in assigned areas, following established schedules and using prescribed procedures.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a pleasant and cooperative service attitude towards patients, families, and staff; High dust all above shoulder surfaces and ceiling vents/lights; Damp wipes all ledges, furnishings, furniture, lights, shelves, light switches, telephones, door knobs, etc.
  • Cleaning and Disinfecting: Clean and disinfect bathrooms/restrooms to include sinks, toilets, showers, tubes, floors, pipes, mirrors, urinals, etc and restock disposable items such as soap, toilet paper, seat covers, and paper towels.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Utilize a wide variety of institutional and industrial cleaning and maintenance chemicals and power equipment according to departmental and OSHA regulations.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Maintain effective communications and working relationships with customers; Work cooperatively with other medical center departments such as Nursing, Maintenance, Materials Management, etc.
  • Quality and Safety: Demonstrate a constant awareness of unsafe or potentially unsafe working conditions and make every effort to correct and report hazards to the proper authority.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of Tenth grade required; High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience: Prior work experience not required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read, write, and speak English; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; Ability to learn occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the job and the application of universal (isolation) precautions for patients.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
