Job Summary
As a Press Operator at American Packaging Corporation, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our Rotogravure press. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of the press, ensuring high-quality production and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in training and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to contribute to our zero-accident rate goal.
- Retrieve and follow setup information, specifications, and guidelines from the job jacket.
- Complete machine changeover and setup processes efficiently, minimizing downtime and meeting or exceeding set-up standards.
- Accurately complete daily production sheets, process condition sheets, waste logs, final release forms, ink paperwork, and quality inspection logs.
- Monitor quality, production, and waste on assigned production machinery, adhering to customer specifications.
- Ensure the immediate work area and responsible areas are free of clutter and debris, performing cleaning and sanitation tasks safely.
- Remove rolls from rewind, hang rolls on rewind, prepare print carriages, bring correct inks and lacquers to the press, configure ink ratios, dispose of ink, solvents, and lacquers, maintain ink viscosities, and cut cores.
- Operate the viscosity control system.
- Document all required on-line quality data.
- Monitor quality requirements as outlined by company procedure and specification, completing necessary sheets for quality checks.
- Participate in safety programs and complete required safety observations, understanding and following plant safety rules.
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings, including Continuous Quality Improvement, safety, special projects, departmental, and other meetings.
- Work all scheduled shifts and required overtime hours.
- Train new employees as necessary.

Education and/or Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
Language Skills
The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos is required. The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations is also necessary.
Mathematical Skills
The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, is required. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs is also necessary.
Reasoning Ability
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions is required. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is also necessary.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
