POSITION SUMMARY: The Prepress Technician is responsible for preparing and staging jobs for printing or laminating processes. This role involves various tasks to ensure that all items are ready for production at any machine. Responsibilities include retrieving and preparing cylinders for press runs, cleaning and storing them post-production, and performing all duties in a safe, effective, and efficient manner while adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage actively in the STOP Safety Program and comply with all safety regulations to support APC's goal of achieving a zero-accident rate.
  • Contribute as a Subject Matter Expert in the development and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and training materials.
  • Review and comprehend each job's Job Jacket, Print Specification, and Manufacturing Specification prior to production.
  • Access the daily production schedule to determine job priorities, quantities, and other relevant details, and act accordingly.
  • Identify, report, and resolve any issues related to missing or substandard machine components.
  • Utilize an automated storage system to manage the retrieval and return of cylinders and anilox to storage.
  • Coordinate with the Mounting Department regarding production schedules and job staging.
  • Assemble and transport print cylinders and aniloxes between the printing press and prepress departments.
  • Install necessary components such as gears, journals, and splash guards onto cylinders during setup.
  • Return cleaned components to prepress and ensure proper storage after job completion.
  • Assist with press setups and maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Operate a core cutter to produce accurately sized cores for scheduled print jobs.
  • Complete necessary reports and documentation using a computer terminal.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks as required.
  • Obtain necessary Power Industrial Truck licenses.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across all shifts.
  • Participate in all company-mandated meetings.
  • Travel for business purposes may be required.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED; one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and effectively communicating with groups.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Competence in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to interpret data presented in graphs.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to follow detailed instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements of this position include regular standing, using hands for manipulation, and the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may expose employees to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and moderate noise levels.
