About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Officer II to join our team at the University of North Texas System. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular patrols of campus areas, buildings, and parking lots to prevent and respond to criminal activity, fires, and other emergencies.
  • Investigate reports of criminal behavior and university regulations, and take appropriate action to enforce laws and policies.
  • Arrest violators and file charges as necessary, and issue citations for parking and traffic violations.
  • Conduct traffic accident investigations and prepare written and oral reports on completed investigative activities and calls.
  • Testify in court and administrative hearings as required.
  • Enforce traffic laws and direct traffic on public streets.
  • Protect lives and property, and perform other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or police supervisory personnel.
Requirements
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Licensed in Texas as a Basic Police Officer and a minimum of two years of post-academy police experience.
  • Must be of good moral character and able to furnish acceptable character references.
  • Ability to understand and willing to abide by the Police Officers Code of Ethics.
  • Physically able to perform police officer duties.
  • Possess valid Texas Driver's License or obtain within thirty days of employment.
  • Able to work long or irregular hours, on various and changing shifts, sometimes under severe emotional stress and inclement weather.
  • Exercise good judgment and to utilize tact and courtesy when working with the public under frequently stressful conditions.
  • Able to react quickly and effectively under emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to formulate solutions to problems in accordance with statutes, regulations, and training.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
  • Ability to operate computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.
  • Microsoft applications.
  • Lateral entry incumbents must be either currently employed as a police officer in Texas or other state or federal jurisdiction acceptable to the university, or have less than a twelve month break in service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, criminal justice, sociology, computer science or related field.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Rotating 12 hour shifts.
