POSITION OVERVIEW: A Faculty Member in Basic Medical Sciences is sought to fulfill educational responsibilities in their respective fields of expertise, contributing to the academic requirements of the School of Podiatric Medicine at LECOM Erie while advancing the institution's mission through research and community service. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and qualifications to instruct at a graduate or professional level in various basic science disciplines, including but not limited to Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Molecular Genetics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following academic duties may be assigned to the Basic Science Faculty member:
  • Act as a subject matter expert in their area of specialization;
  • Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions;
  • Develop examination materials relevant to their field;
  • Participate in the selection process for prospective students;
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to assigned students;
  • Advise at least one student organization;
  • Serve on various committees as needed;
  • Conduct at least one scholarly activity or research initiative annually;
  • Create educational resources (A/V materials, demonstration models, lectures, lessons);
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, small group discussions, and curate reading materials in collaboration with fellow faculty;
  • Design evaluation tools to assess student performance and identify areas for improvement;
  • Engage in faculty and professional development activities;
  • Contribute to overall student success through advising and monitoring outcomes;
  • Support the mission of LECOM by participating in institutional fundraising and community outreach;
  • Engage in scholarly activities to enhance the educational experience for students;
  • Represent LECOM in the community through service on boards and participation in local initiatives;
  • Maintain availability during assigned hours for student instruction;
  • Follow directives from the Assistant/Associate Dean of Preclinical Education; and
  • Accept additional responsibilities as required by the institution.

  • Exceptional organizational abilities;

  • Certification in the Institutional Data System;
  • Commitment to maintaining a consistent work schedule;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects;
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • Establish and nurture effective working relationships;
  • Flexibility to undertake additional duties as assigned;
  • Collaborative spirit consistent with a respectful workplace;
  • Reliability in reporting to work as scheduled; and
  • Ability to accept guidance from supervisors in a professional manner.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Doctorate level education (Ph.D.) is required, along with a preferred background of two to five years of teaching experience in basic sciences.
