POSITION SUMMARY: The Faculty Members in Osteopathic Medicine are distinguished professionals with extensive knowledge and experience in various aspects of Osteopathic Medicine. The selected candidate will engage in teaching responsibilities, including courses on Osteopathic Principles and Practices, as well as contributing to the History & Physical Examination course and the problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum. Additionally, the candidate will play a vital role in mentoring medical students, conducting interviews for prospective students, and supporting the institution's mission through research and community service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following academic responsibilities may be expected from the Faculty Member:
  • Instruct in diverse Clinical Examination courses;
  • Lead the OPP course;
  • Facilitate Problem-Based Learning sessions;
  • Oversee Simulation Lab activities as required;
  • Conduct interviews for prospective College of Medicine candidates;
  • Participate in assigned committees and provide guidance to students and student organizations;
  • Engage in scholarly activities and/or research projects annually;
  • Develop educational materials (A/V, demonstration models, lectures, lessons);
  • Create clinical exercises that reflect real-world clinic protocols and case-based models;
  • Prepare lectures, small group discussions, and curate reading materials in collaboration with fellow faculty;
  • Design evaluation tools to assess student performance and identify areas for improvement;
  • Attend approved meetings that promote professional development;
  • Receive direction and assignments from the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education;
  • Draft detailed course syllabi, outlining assignments and readings for both laboratory and discussion sessions;
  • Be available during assigned hours for student instruction and clinic development;
  • Contribute to student success through advising and monitoring outcomes;
  • Support the mission of the institution by participating in fundraising efforts and community outreach;
  • Engage in scholarly activities to enhance the educational experience for students;
  • Actively represent the institution in the community through service on boards and participation in local events; and
  • Accept additional duties as needed to meet institutional requirements.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and capabilities to fulfill the essential functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Adherence to the AOA or AMA code of ethics is required;
  • Familiarity with medical coding and related information is essential;
  • Compliance with state and federal regulations and safety protocols at the clinic level;
  • Understanding of student and patient privacy regulations;
  • Follow OSHA and safety guidelines diligently;
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer applications (MS Office Suite) are necessary;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required;
  • Certification on the Institutional Data System is mandatory;
  • Proficiency in diagnosis and treatment planning in general dentistry is expected;
  • Ability to maintain a consistent work schedule;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects;
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Flexibility to accept additional duties as needed;

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A D.O. or M.D. degree is required, along with teaching experience in an academic setting, preferably with two to five years of clinical practice experience. A valid PA medical license or the ability to obtain one is necessary.
