Position Overview
The Camp Fraser Site Manager plays a crucial role within the Living Classrooms Foundation, tasked with the upkeep and management of Camp Fraser, primarily aimed at facilitating environmental education for local elementary school students and various community programs.
Job Responsibilities
The Site Manager is a part-time resident responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and repair of the Camp Fraser facilities, ensuring a consistent presence on-site.
Key Duties Include:
- Maintaining a regular presence at Camp Fraser, residing on the property and conducting inspections of all facilities at least bi-weekly, regardless of group activities.
- Exemplifying professionalism as a representative of Living Classrooms and its associated partners.
- Overseeing the management and maintenance of the 75-acre campground, including but not limited to the lodge, outdoor classrooms, hiking trails, and access roads.
Specific Tasks:
- Implementing best practices for trail upkeep and traditional landscaping, including mowing, planting, and tree management.
- Ensuring the maintenance of access routes, including clearing debris to facilitate safe passage for staff and visitors.
- Conducting weekly inspections of buildings and equipment to identify necessary repairs and restocking of supplies.
- Executing conservation and restoration initiatives as directed by management to enhance the environmental learning experience.
- Preparing the site for tours, camping, and educational programs at any given time.
- Performing routine cleaning and maintenance of the lodge, including roof and drainage upkeep.
- Managing firewood supplies for camp programs through regular wood chopping and debris removal.
Equipment and Compliance:
The Site Manager is responsible for ensuring all equipment is in safe working order and maintaining accurate site records, including permits and maintenance logs, to comply with regulatory requirements.
Visitor Engagement:
The role includes overseeing weekly waste management and greeting visitors, campers, and educational groups, ensuring a welcoming environment.
Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and self-motivation.
- Experience in basic maintenance and handyman skills is essential.
- Ability to operate power tools and outdoor equipment safely.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Compensation:
The Site Manager will receive compensation for up to 20 hours of work per week, with additional hours requiring prior approval. The position includes full access to the residence during employment.
