GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Prepare, season, and cook a variety of dishes including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts for both fine dining and banquet/event guests. This role also involves training responsibilities, supervising the learning experiences of students across various areas of The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, The Kirkwood Center for Hospitality Arts, and The Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure compliance with safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Assist or substitute for other cooks during peak periods or emergencies.
  • Prepare fruits and vegetables for cooking by washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding.
  • Cook a variety of dishes for consumption.
  • Respond to dietary inquiries by identifying and explaining ingredients.
  • Prepare and serve meals for hotel staff.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Follow instructions (i.e., menus/recipes) accurately while planning and preparing meals.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as squatting, reaching, and bending.
  • Knowledge of food storage and handling techniques.
  • Embrace and support a diverse environment that values different backgrounds and perspectives.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

This position involves working in a kitchen environment, requiring occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds is necessary, along with constant standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some kitchen line or preparation experience preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a post-secondary degree.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of full-time experience in a related hospitality setting or equivalent education and experience.
