Job Summary

Clinical Pharmacists play a vital role in the University of Maryland Medical System, providing expert care and guidance to patients and healthcare teams. As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will be responsible for optimizing safe and effective drug therapy in a variety of clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care: Participate in direct patient care and interdisciplinary rounds, interacting with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to guide and recommend appropriate medication use.
  • Clinical Initiatives: Participate in focused clinical initiatives, such as pharmacokinetic consultation, IV to PO, renal dose adjustment, and other department-defined projects.
  • Therapeutic Expertise: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to recommend appropriate therapeutic treatment for neonatal, adult, pediatric, adolescent, and elderly patients.
  • Medication Management: Monitor assigned patient areas for clinical progress, evaluate pharmacotherapeutic regimens for effectiveness and adverse drug events, and recommend adjustments to therapy as necessary.
  • Leadership and Education: Provide drug information and education to other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals, serve as primary preceptor for pharmacy residents and students, and assist with departmental orientation for new employees.
  • Quality and Safety: Participate in departmental quality improvement processes, including collecting data for drug use evaluation, reporting and following up on medication incidents, and reporting medication adverse events.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate activities and integrate services by working closely with other departments to provide comprehensive services, and participate in departmental and hospital staff development programs.
