Job Overview

As an HVAC Installation Technician Trainee, you will be responsible for the effective installation of heating and cooling systems, including air conditioning units, furnaces, heat pumps, and ductwork for residential clients. This role requires a solid understanding of HVAC systems and maintaining close communication with clients throughout the installation process. Adherence to safety protocols and procedures is essential, and exceeding customer expectations is a key requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine the appropriate type and size of piping and related materials for each job site.
  • Cut, thread, and bend piping; assemble and install various metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, and fittings.
  • Connect pipes using various methods such as threaded, caulked, soldered, and cemented joints; secure pipes with brackets and clamps.
  • Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors and piping.
  • Conduct pressure tests to check for leaks using appropriate gauges.
  • Assess and gather necessary materials, tools, and equipment for each task.
  • Design and layout duct systems with proper sizing and airflow requirements.
  • Install air quality products, including dehumidifiers and humidifiers, and program thermostats.
  • Recover refrigerant from old systems and charge new units using superheat and subcooling methods.
  • Lead the installation team in executing all responsibilities effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the HVAC industry.
  • Professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong communication skills to keep customers informed throughout the service process.
  • Ability to tailor communication for optimal customer experience.
  • Competence in documenting detailed job notes for future reference.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and learn from colleagues in collaborative settings.
  • Open to innovative ideas and suggesting improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Regular communication with dispatchers to update job statuses for scheduling.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized workspace, both on-site and in company vehicles.
  • Focus on safety and ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
  • General knowledge of safe working practices and relevant OSHA regulations is necessary.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position requires regular physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting. Employees must be able to climb ladders, work in varying temperatures, and navigate small spaces. Regular lifting of 50 lbs or more is expected. Vision requirements include the ability to focus on close tasks and adjust visual focus as needed.

The work environment may vary with the seasons and project demands, necessitating outdoor work throughout the year. Employees should be prepared for frequent interruptions and shifting priorities. Effective communication with customers, vendors, and team members is crucial.
